In his journey back from Troy, Odysseus angered the gods by blinding Poseidon the Sea God's son, and eating the sacred cattle of Helios the Sun God. This has earned him the wrath of the gods who forced him to endure a brutal decades-long journey filled with monsters and divine punishment that cost him all his men and his ships, with only the memory of seeing his mortal wife and son again to drive his journey home, and therefore surviving thus far. Now alone, Odysseus has been stranded on the island of Ogygia with the nymph Calypso for seven years. Calypso offers him immortality, safety, and eternal youth if he remains with her, but at the cost of seeing his wife and son again, as well as his claim to the throne of his kingdom, Ithaca.
